Porro and Piero Lissoni mix in the best of industrial and artisan

During Milan Design Week, Porro came up with a couple of new ideas for decoration with a couple of products made alongside one of the main Italian design influences of these days: Piero Lissoni. Let’s have a look into the novelties that this brand brought up during this event as well as the innovations behind these wonderful new products.

For their 2019 collection presented this year at Salone del Mobile 2019, Porro has decided to innovate by creating a bridge between the two worlds: industrial and artisan. They did this by combining rationality and imagination, technological avant-garde and manual finishing. As a helping guide to this new concept by the brand is Piero Lissoni who has been designer and art director of Porro since 1987, as well as the creator and principal interpreter of the brand’s style.

For this set of products unveiled at iSaloni 2019, Piero Lissoni decided to imagine the 2019 Porro home in an open way. One in which walls disappear and the furnishings become architecture. We have our first example with the System bookcases that allow the owners a lot more flexibility when it comes to leaving an empty space that is almost contemplative.

Another top highlight debut from Porro comes from the small Lullaby lounge chair.  This is a good example of a chair that evokes the comfort and the act of cradling a baby. The Lullaby chair also has some sophisticated details behind its apparent simplicity: among them the small supporting foot in champagne painted metal, its ash solid structure and the covering in soft light blue fabric.

There’s also the Modern container system which has been freed from the constraints of modular construction and presents itself as a good example of how elegance rhymes with looseness. This set is also the perfect example of some mixing and matching of one’s own preferred colours and materials, such as the new vibrant Arancio Zucca lacquer which made its debut 2019. This new concept by Porro has achieved solutions that are different and personal each time and manage to pass as one among many examples of Piero Lissoni’s talent for design.

There are many existing products that have suffered a transformation and a new creation. Among them, we can point to the new oval version of the Jeff table by Gabriele and Oscar Buratti, the larger size of the Kite Sofa couch by GamFratesi as well as the Frank chair by Piero Lissoni. All of these bestsellers have been reimagined and readopted with a couple of new interesting features.

Roche Bobois has presented some new additions to the Nativ collection

Roche Bobois was present at Milan Design Week 2019 in order to present to its audience the novelties in their Nativ collection, designed by Raphael Navot. During the iSaloni 2019 event guests who headed towards Hall 6 C30 were able to have a first glance at a familiar collection that blended geometric mastery and organic forms effectively.

The best way to define this collection, in the words of Roche Bobois themselves is as it being “a strangely familiar collection that proposes a dialogue between geometric mastery and organic forms”. During the Italian showcase two new products were introduced: the Underline series,  the new Fly light suspension and lastly the Curiosity modular bookcase.

The first series consisted of a line of seating combining leather and fabric upholstery made in order to emphasize the silhouette of its soft duvet. The second consists of a lighting product that can be best defined as a “luminous unidentified flying object”. However, the main highlight definitely goes to the Curiosity modular bookcase.

Roche Bobois has talked extensively about this particular product. It consists of a surprising construction in oak, inspired by the cabinet of curiosities of the 16th century. This product was from many elements of different shapes and sizes that blend together to create a unique ensemble/piece.

Aside from these three new products Roche Bobois also presented a new collaboration again with Raphael Navot. We’re talking about Oscar Ono Paris: a revolutionary flooring and wall cladding system, with timeless patterns, made of pre-assembled modules of pieces of solid oak.

Roche Bobois and Navot have become regular collaborators, another relevant example being the Primordial bookcase, which was seen by the designer as “an atypical, intriguing, quasi-tribal piece”. Not to mention that Raphael Navot was also responsible for the new architecture of the historic Roche Bobois showroom, which is located at 207 Saint Germain Boulevard.

A look at some top collections that came from Milan Design Week

Milan Design Week once again didn’t fail to introduce a couple of new game changers to the world of design, including new top collections of furniture. Join us into our little compilation of new furniture products that was revealed during this week.

Artemide

This Italian lighting company recently came up with a couple of novelties in the lighting category. Among some projects, we can enumerate a couple of new projects that correspond to this company’s rich history of innovative products, “designed by architects for architects”. We’re talking about products such as the Ripple chandeliers, the Curiosity lamps, Gople chandeliers and even some interesting light concepts such as the La Linea lighting effects.

Antolini

Antolini is well known for their 50 years of experience in the treatment and conception of new materials from the most varied types of stones. For Salone del Mobile they’ve brought in a couple of new materials such as QUARZITE CALACATTA, QUARZITE GIOTTO, QUARZITE MACAUBAS GOLD and QUARZO AZUR. These new stones promise to give a new take on slabs.

Flos

Probably the biggest highlight for Flor this year is Design Holding, a project that was recently created by Investindustrial and The Carlyle Group, consisting of the new global high-end interior design group that brings together the three iconic companies: B&B Italia, Flos and Louis Poulsen.

Flos also took this chance to launch the re-edition of one of its cult designs from the Sixties: the lamp Chiara by Mario Bellini. This novelty was done on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, this chance being taken to also release the first edition of an extraordinary 1957 design by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni: the Bulbo lamp.

Gibus

Gibus consists of a brand that stands out through its amazing creations that are focused on residential and commercial projects showing off some of the best products when it comes to an outdoor lifestyle. There was Click Zip with vertical drop awning contained in a square-shaped cassette box, the TXT arm awning revolutionary when it comes to sun protection, and NODO, a simple but luxurious arm awning.

Living Divani

Last but not least we have Living Divani, a brand that gives its furniture products some interesting silhouettes, sophistication, a selected colour palette, all of them with a touch and sense of energy and freedom to them. We can see their uniqueness in products such as Light With a Table, Pebble Low Table, and even Materica.
